Warsaw Uprising 1944 Warsaw Uprising 1944 was the largest uprising during World War II, in which also civilians participated in the underground Polish Army. Insurgents militarily formed against the German occupation forces. But there was also a political objective aimed at liberating Warsaw from the arrival of the hostile Red Army. Warsaw Uprising 1944 The Warsaw Uprising lasted from August 1 to October 3, 1944. During the two months of fighting, insurgents lost almost 16,000 soldiers - 10,000 of them killed and 6,000 missing, who should be considered killed. 20,000 insurgents were injured. About 15,000 soldiers were sent to German captives (including about 900 officers and 2,000 women). 25% of the city of Warsaw was drowned during the uprising. After the fighting ended, the German Army demolished 30% of the city. Among the Civilian population, nearly 200,000 people were killed.
